The worth of knowledge.

Last Monday I went to the Alsace to buy some wine. It will be stored in the wine cellar of le Grand Soleil as soon as I have changed the lock of the cellar door.
No keys for that door right now, see. When I asked the former owner about this, he looked at me if I had just made a comment on his underwear. (…)

At Turckheim I knew what I wanted so I just started to collect some boxes. A man (from France) came to me. ‘You seem to be a connoisseur, can you help me with ….’
It always strikes me that if you only know just a little bit more about something, you can already commercialize (sell) that knowledge. It was certainly true in the times I sold software solutions for Disk@d. Then again, I hope it is not true for, for example brain surgeons (…)

Second stop was Baron Kirmann. I happen to know Philippe a little. But I only saw an older woman. ‘Is there someone that can help me, ..eh… you?‘. Mais oui, elle m’a dit. Je suis ‘someone’. It was maman Kirmann.
We had a fun conversation, with lots of tasting. She told me about the effect on the grapes of all the rain we have had in August. (Even in the Alsace.)
Lots of knowledge that was given to me for free. I will pass it on, also for free. As long as people book the wine tastings (..)

Weather again ....

When you are in the rental business the weather is very important.
The problem is that you can’t do much about it. Then again, … that is not entirely true.

July 2006 was extremely hot. Several days we measured more than 36 degrees C.
People sit in the shade or stay in the house. They do not want to do anything but read and have a cold drink now and then.
Well for us this meant: check the fridges! We installed an extra freezer in 3 houses. Another thing was/is to supply some books and old magazines.
We will visit ‘the village of books' Fontenoy la Joute in September. Check out: http://www.fontenoy-la-joute.com/ To get some extra supplies.

Even more important is a bad weather program. Early or late in the year you would expect some rain now and then.
Not in August though. Anyway we have had a terrible month so far. (…)
This again meant to supply some books and old magazines. And DVD’s. We have taken some of our private collection.

Lots of people already asked us about the wine tasting possibilities. Fills another rainy afternoon or day and is fun.
We will start this in September in the farm le Grand Soleil. Then it will be possible on short notice. It is encouraging though that there already is so much interest.

The sun is shining right now. Only 20 degrees, but we shouldn’t complain too much.
Our bicycles and feet feel it is their turn now.
