Vosges-Photo-Archive on Flickr

In the coming months I will be working on the Vosges-Photo-Archive on Flickr.(vosges_photo_archive) Input will be photos send to the Flickr Vosges Group and/or me directly.
You can look at the Vosges Group as a big container. The photos go to Vosges-Photo-Archive after some modest filtering.

With the Archive account I will have the opportunity to divide the photos in many sets, accessible for a wide audience. Sets will be 'forests, lakes, cities, houses, people, winter' and so on. Sets will also be ‘professionals’ and ‘amateurs’.
In the tags of each photo will always be the name of the photographer, ie the name he or she is using on Flickr. The title that is given to the photo will be copied 1:1.
I will not use large pics, in other words for the high(er) quality people have to go directly to the particpant him/herself. For copyrights: people that use/copy a photo from the Vosges-Photo-Archive have to add a line that states where they got it from. (attribution).

In 2006 JoliSoleil will organise a digital photo competition with the goal to get many more photos for the archive. And we have other plans too !!
I will be doing this for fun and free of charge. The Vosges-Photo-Archive will NOT be a direct way to promote my business or any other business. Only to attract interest and tourism in the Vosges mountains in general.
For my own business I use another Flickr account: chalets_jolisoleil.

So send in your Vosges (holiday) pics to the Vosges Group or to me (pieter@jolisoleil.fr) and where they were taken! I will do the rest.

Snow storm in the Netherlands

Eind november is na een prachtig najaar ineens de winter ingevallen. In Frankrijk wat sneeuw, maar vooral koude nachten. In Nederland afgelopen vrijdag 25 november veel sneeuw en een storm met als gevolg een chaos op de wegen. Meer dan 800 kilometer file. Ver na middernacht nog steeds tientallen files. Bomen kunnen het gewicht van de sneeuw niet dragen. Met als gevolg blokkades op de binnenwegen. Vreselijk.
Hier in de Vogezen in Frankrijk zijn we qua sneeuw toch wat meer gewend. Ook de natuur lijkt beter voorbereid.

Gek eigenlijk dat de mensen hiervoor in de komende kerst- en voorjaarsvakantie juist komen. Sneeuw dus. Om te skien en te langlaufen en om te wandelen. Het ziet er allemaal heel sfeervol uit. Dat wel. En je kunt hier inderdaad fantastisch wintersporten. Maar soms vergeet men zich goed voor te bereiden. Winterbanden bijvoorbeeld is hier heel belangrijk. Het kan het verschil maken tussen op de weg blijven of eindigen in een greppel.
Ontzag voor de natuur. Dat hebben we hiermeer dan in Nederland geleerd. Je goed voorbereiden en aanpassen. Dan is het vooral ook mooi.
